Mayfair Says Hello to Nordstrom
Today while out and about in our beloved Milwaukee, my mother and I decided to pay Mayfair’s newest addition a visit. I was expecting the apparel selection to woo me the most, but my experience at Nordstrom was just that-an experience.
From the moment I stepped foot in the store, I was greeted by the pleasant, open layout and welcoming, natural lighting. Too often do department stores fall into the habit of “this is what it’s supposed to look like” and design with shiny floors and unflattering fluorescent fixtures. In each department, collages of cool, applicable paintings covered the walls only adding to the desired persona. In the fitting room waiting area-nearly designed to live in-lies a stylish quarter to complement the given department. Unique couches and IKEA-esque layouts made me not only comfortable, but also excited to explore more of the store.
Besides the modern and refreshingly impressive floor layouts, what pleased me the most was the customer service. During our first stop at the renowned shoe department, I was both greeted and approached for assistance two separate times. While trying on a dress I was apprehensive about, a sales associate voluntarily brought me belts from another department (on another floor!) to try it on with. The gesture ultimately swaying me toward the purchase of that dress. On top of all that, the staff was a collectively diverse group by race, culture, gender, and age. It was nice to be helped by approachable, happy faces and not an Abercrombie zombie.
The Mayfair location marks Nordstrom’s 121st full-line shore, and I am more than happy they have arrived. With my expectations exceeded, I would definitely call for a second date. Nordstrom’s, you’re doing it right.
