Weekend in NOLA
As a self-proclaimed east coast person, I seldom spend time in the south. However, for my mom’s 20th Mother’s Day we (over) packed and headed towards the land of fried chicken and voodoo.
Courtesy of hospitality ties we were set up in the classic and impeccably designed Old No.77 hotel in the Nola business district. (Staying anywhere other than a boutique hotel with a mother in brand marketing would be considered a cardinal sin.)
New Orleans had been described to me as the closest thing to Europe inside the US which for me translated to complete creative wardrobe freedom. This meant the gems patiently and eagerly waiting inside my closet for “that time” were about to make the roster.
Day #1
A travel day should consist of comfortable and chic pieces fit for running after planes I’m probably late for.
Gem: Anthropologie floppy hat
Look: Citizens of Humanity denims, Steve Madden lace-up flats, H&M button-down, Ray Ban glasses, assorted rings
Night #1
To get acquainted with the city my mother, grandmother, and I dined in the idyllic Garden district-table for three at Cavan, a converted colonial shotgun manor.
Gem: Denim, plunge, vintage, Parisian dress
Look: Aldo lemon snakeskin pumps, H&M medallion
Day #2
Promising antique shops scoped the night before brought us back to the Garden District where we did some damage on Magazine Street-there lie the remains of our credit card balance, rest in peace.
Gem: Newly purchased tortoise shell, mirror sun glasses
Look: long-sleeve croquette blouse, olive button-up mini skirt, Steve Madden lace-up flats, Francesca’s earrings, assorted rings
Night #2
Onward to the French Quarter. A glass of Chardonnay, patio seating, and my beautiful mother-deemed my favorite ingredients-equated to another blissful evening at Oxalis.

Day #3
A late afternoon Mother’s Day brunch at the Royal Sonesta Hotel was the cherry on top to a perfect getaway. Did I mention how much I love my mother?
