It’s no secret that travel serves as a huge source of inspiration for designers and trends. Creatives are able to study landscapes, traditional garb, and architecture to fully immerse oneself and even integrate personal styles within cultures and destinations. A few years ago it was Spain when everyone was doing ruffles, dramatic fringe trim, and romantic silhouettes. Then Morocco became the new inspiration incubator, seen through trends such as embroidery, puff ball details, and pointed mules. The new destination obsession? Iceland!
I recently had the chance to add a stamp in my password from this other-worldly hotspot and it did not fall short of expectation. The black, rocky landscape overtaken by moss and rich in minerals, wooly wildlife, geothermal activity, and traditional heavy knits were a staunch contrast to my typical environment. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a decent amount of shearling, wooly knits, and earth tones in the upcoming seasons.
With rainy and cooler than ideal temperatures, I gladly borrowed this adorable waterproof trench-style jacket by Rains. After an afternoon around geysers, waterfalls, and downtown Reykjavik I can honestly say I’m obsessed with Iceland and with this brand! Between the quality of the lightweight fabric and classic silhouette I would highly recommend checking out this chic Danish outfitter.
Underneath, this cropped jumpsuit was an easy throw-on and gave me a chance to show off my favorite bralette courtesy of the side slits. For practical purposes, my matching Mango shades, Kate Spade backpack, and World Market scarf helped me brave the outdoor day. And of course, through the streets of downtown Reykjavik and around paths of exposed tectonic plates, my yellow roses were with me the whole way.
I adored my quick trip and will hopefully be back soon, discovering more of fashion’s destination influences with my favorite munchkin. Till my next flight!
