Potentially based on power smize alone, Posh Spice has been my day one girl. From the utter confidence, savage attitude, and undeniable style, I can’t help but play favorites! While I could never attain her level of calf tone or arm candy, I’d like to say we could split a pot of tea over style risks and fashion moments we could never forget or repeat. That’s the real test isn’t it? Which Spice Girl could you split a pot of tea with? Sounds rightfully British and fabulous.
While Posh is my Spice Girl horoscope sign, likely sharing the same affinity for power dressing, a piece-y ponytail, and a grand entrance, I must confess a lapse in character. After finding this Mango utility jumpsuit, I can’t help but occasionally tap into the persona of a one Mel B and moonlight as Sporty Spice. Taking on a more tomboy aesthetic, this look felt effortless given this easy one piece throw-on and no-lace sneakers.
I first became overtaken by Sporty when I found these NMD Sock City Sashiko’s at the unforgettably cool No42 Adidas concept store in Paris. Thanks to professional connections by a professor, a few classmates and I got hooked up with a buyer who graciously walked us through the store and gave us the low down a few designs; namely the Sock City collection. Adidas was arguably the first brand to create the sock silhouette now ruled by designer houses like Vetements and Balenciaga and acclaimed by sneakerheads worldwide. What drew me to these trainers is the zebra-esque color way, no doubt reminiscent of the Adidas Yeezy zebra release.
To finish the look I layered the jumpsuit with an olive mesh tshirt, my Warby Parker frames, and some hardware of my own.
I think we can all agree, the Spice Girls are our guilty pleasures, but with the longevity of their fashion influence and girl power movement I think it’s time to put some respect back on the name.
