I read a tweet recently that talked about how women’s magazines have been convincing readers for years that taking an outfit from day to night would be an important thing in their adult life, but the situation never seems to arise. While I did have to laugh, I also have to disagree. With transit time cutting well into happy hour, a girl has to be prepared to come straight from the office!
I would like to formally debunk said tweet, siting last week Saturday’s events. I was lucky enough to be apart of College Fashion Week presented by Her Campus, an incredible career launching point for inspired college women. Interning for the event and lending a hand for a dear friend was a true privilege and learning experience for all things experiential and integrated marketing as well as woman empowerment on the #realrunway.
Going from backstage coordination to interacting with the corporate sponsors, this all-day event required an outfit that, in fact, needed to take me day to night. Please read below for proof thanks to a Caara jumpsuit hooked up by Rent the Runway, a service I can’t preach more highly of!
Daytime Recipe
One part casual Kate Spade crossbody, two parts everyday Michael Kors sneakers for scampering between fittings and hair and makeup, and three parts layering: featuring a lightweight turtleneck, statement pop of color, and fabulous jumpsuit itself.
Not only is finding the right combination of pieces key, but also styling the transitional garment itself is important. This deep denim Caara jumpsuit luckily came with a tie that allowed for detailing. For daytime, I knotted a half-bow in the front for a little something extra.
Evening Recipe
One part sparkle, two parts snake skin, and four parts bling. To dress up any ensemble, heals are the easiest way to literally elevate the look, and these snakeskin pumps from Francesca’s were the perfect touch of print. Underneath, I opted for a Brandy Melville sheer, long sleeve top for some sparkle that read both stylish and professional.
In terms of switching up the base piece, I simply retied the lined string in the back to allow the front of the garment to appear more seamless, less busy, and overall more formal.
With less going on in the front than the daytime look, I took the opportunity to add a neck-full of layered gold pieces from Primark, the leading Her Campus corporate sponsor for College Fashion Week. I also added a pinch of color with a pair of geometric earrings from H&M. For the final ingredient, I tucked in the strap from my Kate Spade bag to transition the cross body to a night time clutch.
A big thank you to Her Campus and fashion show coordinator (and my bestie), Corinne Hennessey, for letting me be a part of an event that promotes healthy career advancement, intercollegiate networking, and ways in which real women can lift up other real women. Definitely follow Her Campus on social media and check out their website, chock full of amazing resources and articles written by students nationwide and for your next all-day event try concocting your own transitional recipe!
