In a recent post, I preached the almighty powers of thoughtful details within an ensemble; but what about when quantity actually equates to quality? That’s right, heavy-hitting, upper weight-class, statement pieces. When it comes to winter, you want pieces that hold not only physical weight, but also weight in style. That being said, my numero uno statement favorite remains a not-so-quiet coat.
While sherpa jackets have maneuvered their way into the front-runner position in the trend race, I’m still a sucker for the near-excessive cheetah coat. Oozing retro and luxe vibes from every spot, faux fur is the ultimate statement winter piece.
Statements coats are the perfect remedy to transform a basic look to fabulous, keeping you warm while looking oh-so-cool.
Now, while I’m not opposed to it, rocking cheetah faux fur daily is a tad unrealistic. Which leads me to my second favorite statement piece for winter: a purse that packs a punch.
I picked up this true red corduroy bag from my forever loyal second hand shop in New York and she hasn’t left my side since. I’m obsessed with the gold hardware and makeup case shape, perfect for everyday essentials.
To energize the doom and gloom of the colder temperatures, a statement bag can add just the pop of color, print, or texture you need.
Underneath both of these two statements, I opted for a fit inspired by one of the most magical places in Manhattan: Grand Central Station. I’ll always remember the first time I arched my neck far enough to lay eyes on the constellation painted ceiling and chandeliers who’ve seen enough reunion hugs and good-bye kisses to revive a heart.
My free people overalls, striped long sleeve, Nine West booties (courtesy of my build-in second closet aka Ashley Nordyke), and Parisian fisherman’s hat pieced together the conductor look I never knew I needed. Scroll for glorious visuals and continue to rock the statement pieces that float your boat till the rains of spring come to save us! Happy new year everyone -XO.
