In the grand scheme of trends, biker shorts have definitely reached the peak point of adoption by the masses. What started as a street style slow burn has steamrolled into the wardrobes of most females I know and saturated Instagram discover pages for months. Combining the genius comfort of high waisted leggings and spandex, bike short are basically glorified Spanx. Hallelujah!
With the resurgence of 90s mania, Princess Diana and Rachel Green have returned as the muses of the now. With them, oversized band tees, fanny packs, and chunky sneakers hitched the same ride and you’d be hard pressed to find an influencer who hasn’t paired all three with a bike short. The look is cute, easy, and undoubtedly works. Hence why it’s been copied a million times. In the spirit of general angst, I got to sifting through my closet with the mission of doing something different. If I claim to compare bike shorts with leggings, they have to be just as versatile, right?
Since investing in these Aritzia brand shorts this summer, I’ve joined the band wagon and surrender to my adoration for the stretchy magic. While they’re not so ground breaking anymore, try integrating the biker short trend into your wardrobe. Here are three ways how -that you hopefully haven’t seen yet.
Look 1
Playing up the athletic nature of the short, here’s a look with a sporty base that combines like tones using pieces that otherwise feel like an odd match. Using similar colors and proportion, they come together nicely in a really refreshing way that’s both juxtaposing and complimentary.
Look 2
In a more supporting role, the biker short is a great tool for layering! Try pairing it with a long top or unbuttoned dress to play with an alternating hemline. Broken down, this look is shorts and a cropped top with a half-buttoned collared dress underneath and a tuxedo vest over the top. With a couple elevated accessories, the shorts take on a more formal appearance without losing the laid back, cool vibe.
Look 3
On the opposite end of the spectrum, try optimizing the comfort and ease of the short in a more casual ensemble. An oversized button down and sweater did the trick here, loosely rolling the sleeves and tying the sweater across my body. With sneakers, my everyday bag sans strap and some yeehaw accessories, the bike short opts in just as easily as your go-to jean shorts would.
